DANCE SOLO SYLLABUS

  • We ask that, if you are showing any signs of COVID-19 - fever, above 37.5 degrees, raspy cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath we ask you to please stay at  home.

  • We ask you NOT to attend if you are meant to be in isolation at the time of the competition.

  • EBSDN has the right to amend the program at any time and combine sections.

  • The performers age cut off for all sections at EBSDN are as of 1st January the year of the competition. In the event your performer is BORN on the 1st January, they can elect which age category they will perform in.

  • EBSDN has now created a Pay By 8 Weeks when you enter online. 

  • Please enter as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

  • Entries that have NOT been paid for will not be accepted until payment has been received.

  • Payment is via Square when entering online.

  • When entering through the website an invoice will be emailed to you.

  • This is not confirmation your entry has been accepted.

  • Entry is not accepted or processed until payment is received by Everybody Sing and Dance Now.

  • Entries can only be made with our online booking system.

  • Entries cannot be submitted or paid for any other way.

  • Any competitor who has been a regular pupil of the adjudicators within 1 year, prior to the opening date of competition may compete for critique only.

  • Solo|Duo|Trio Performer Registration Fee - $35.00 includes SPECTATORS.

  • FEBRUARY there will be a door fee as we have NOT charged a Performer Fee. Door Fee will be All Day Pass $15.00 per adult.

  • YOU MUST enter 3 sections to be able to enter EBSDN Title Sections.

  • You MUST enter Mr and Miss EBSDN Entertainment or

  • Lyrical| Contemporary Title to enter DOTY!

  • SHOWCASE DOTY (Dancer of the Year) QUALIFER - $20.00

  • IMPORTANT

  • Audience members are encouraged to support ALL performers that hit the stage.

  • Cameras and Video Recorders are NOT permitted in the auditorium except for the video and photo personnel hired by EBSDN. Anybody not adhering to this rule will be requested to leave the competition after being asked to delete any recording of the competition from their device and it will lead to DISQUALIFACATION, of the act that the person is filming.

  • REGISTRATION FEE

  • Please note this fee is non refundable for such instances as "change of mind", "conflict of other events on at the same time", "no show"

  • Please refer to our terms and conditions. 
     

  • MAGICAL PROPS

  • Props can be used; however, it is the entrant’s responsibility to place them in the allocated prop area, label them correctly, and bring them on/off stage throughout the competition.

  • Safety is paramount in the use of props.

  • Props must be built off stage, carried, not dragged onto the stage. 

  • EBSDN does not take responsibility for any injuries caused by the use of props. Any props left over at the conclusion of the event, will be placed in the bin. 

  • Free standing props with a 45 second time allowance for preparation is permitted. All props must be removed immediately after the performer has finished the routine.

  • If the floor is littered during a routine from costumes or props, dancers must be prepared to clear the floor immediately after the routine is finished.

  • NO POWDER. GLITTER. WATER. MIRRORS. ETC ETC is to be USED! 

  • ALL TAP PERFORMERS ARE TO WEAR TAP COVERS AT ALL TIMES!!

  • NO PRACTICING TAPS IN CHANGE AREA AT ALL.

  • AGE GROUPS

  • TINY TOT  (4under)

  • PETITE (5yrs to 6yrs)

  • PRE JUNIOR (7yrs to 8yrs)

  • JUNIOR (9yrs to 10yrs)

  • PRE TEEN (11yrs to 12yrs)

  • TEEN (13yrs to 14yrs) 

  • PRE SENIOR (15yrs to 16yrs)

  • SENIOR (17yrs and over)

  • OFFICIAL TIMERS. Performers exceeding time limits will be penalised, time allowed over must be within 30 seconds.

  • Students will have 2 points deducted before adjudication is given and will receive critiques only.

  • TIME LIMITS

  • My First Year On Stage - 2 and a half minutes.

  • Tiny Tots to Pre Junior Solos -  2 and a half minutes.

  • Solo |Duo| Trio - 3 minutes.

  • Singing 3 minutes. 

  • Troupes - 4 minutes.

  • GENRES

  • Jazz - A routine that utilises jazz technique.

  • Tap - A routine utilising tap technique.

  • Hip Hop - A routine that consists of street styles of dance.

  • Broadway Jazz / Cabaret - A Jazz routine that is dynamic, with an entertaining concept or a gimmick that should contain jazz technique from any Theatre, film or musical. No more than 4 acro tricks permitted.

  • Dance Musical Theatre - A presentation from a stage or film musical.

  • It can include singing, dialogue, and dance. Backing vocals permitted.

  • Lyrical - A routine that is slow controlled movement that demonstrates a  close connection to and  understanding  of the  music.  Must demonstrate  balance,  flexibility  and  control.

  • Traditional Contemporary - Routine must show balance and control, Traditional includes classically based, foundation training, inspired by artists such as Alvin Ailey
    Commercial Contemporary – A Routine must show balance and control, commercial will also include innovative, cutting-edge themes.

  • Classical Ballet - A routine that consists of classical steps and ballet technique.

  • Demi Character/National Character - Based on classical ballet technique, the portrayal of a storyline must be strong and equal to the dance.

  • Own Choice - This section is open to all styles / genres and acts that do not typically fit into any other categories. (acro, pop and lock, break dance etc etc) 

  • Student Choreography - Choreographers must be students (not deriving income from teaching/performing). 

  • IT MUST NOT BE A TEACHERS WORK IT MUST BE THE PERFORMERS!!

  • EBSDN IMPROVISATIONS   

  • You may wear any colour leotard or even a costume! 

  • NO High waisted undies and crops. 

  • Girls, your hair MUST be off your face!!!! 

  • You will either wear shoes or no shoes.

  • No wearing of one shoe in improvisations, for lyrical and contemporaries.

  •  I have asked the adjudicator to take 1 mark off for wearing one shoe.

  • Performers will take their place on the stage, listen to the music, and then strike a pose!!

  • The music will commence, and you will dance, the music ends, and you MUST hold your final pose.

  • The adjudicator writes down a score for each performer, judged on performance, technique and most importantly choreography, no VOICE critiques in impros. 

  • SECTION DEFINITIONS

  •  Weekend EBSDN competitions will have - My First year On Stage. Restricted and Open. 
     

  • My First Year On Stage: This is for performers who are NEW to performing, in 2023. 

  • If you place in this section the next time you enter EBSDN it will have to be in Specially Restricted or Restricted Sections. 

  • If your performer has two routines, one will be placed in Own Choice.
     

  • SPECIALLY RESTRICTED: This section is open to performers who, prior to the closing date for entries, have never been placed first, second or third in any eisteddfod in that particular discipline.
     

  • RESTRICTED: This section is open to performers who, prior to the closing date for entries, have never been placed first in a Restricted or Open section at any eisteddfod in the discipline in which they have entered.

  • OPEN: is open to performers who have NOT PLACED in OPEN SECTIONS in the last 2 years at any competition.
     

  • ELITE: is open to performers who have PLACED in OPEN SECTIONS in the last 2 years at any competition.

  • LATE ENTRY, MEDIA, CHANGES, CANCELLATIONS AND ADMITTANCE.

  • EBSDN DOES NOT HAVE A WAITLIST

  • EBSDN will close entries, when competition is FULL. 

  • EBSDN will not accept late entries.

  • NO refunds will be issued after your entry has been received.

  • You cannot ask for a refund for change of mind or conflict with another event. - PLEASE REFER TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS. 

  • EBSDN reserves the right to refuse entry to any person.

  • On entry you give your consent for EBSDN to use and retain the name and image of your child for the purposes of public relations, media and promotion in print or through the EBSDN Facebook page and website.

  • This consent would remain in place for 3 years.

  • EBSDN reserves the right to combine low section numbers.

 

  • PERFORMING IN ORDER OF PROGRAM

  • All entries are expected to perform at their scheduled day/time.

  • In extenuating circumstances, with advance notice, an entry may be permitted to Dance-Off. 

  • All Dance-Offs are scheduled before the start of regular competition day. (It may require performing at 6.30am)

  • Dance-Offs will receive adjudication and a voice critique; however, they are in-eligible for placement within the category and Top 5.

  • REPEATING A PERFORMANCE

  • Performers in Open Sections from 8yrs and over cannot repeat their dance after forgetting it, they will be judged on what they have performed.

  • They will not be eligible for a place.

  • Repeats will be allowable for younger age groups at the discretion of the adjudicator.

  • Repeats in restricted sections 8 under after breakdown, will be able to repeat their performance for the adjudicator and marked on such an attempt.

  • FIRST AID BE SAFE BE PREPARED!
    Not all venues have the facilities for ice-packs.
    Each Studio MUST provide their own first aid person, ice, and first aid kit for TROUPES!
    EBSDN volunteers and staff are not responsible for providing any first aid equipment or ice/heat products.

     

  • CHOREOGRAPHY ​OWNERSHIP

  • Parents, Dancers and Teachers/Choreographers.

  • Please be aware of what routines are being performed.

  • If a student has left a dance studio please ensure you have permission from past choreographers/teachers to be able to continue to perform routines who's ownership may be in question at any competition.

  • Please understand that disputes in regards to this must be mediated and handled with class on not on the social media platform, or the event itself by the parties involved.

  • Failure to do so we will see disqualification for all parties involved.

  • If on social media Everybody Sing and Dance Now is named for allowing a routine to go on stage EBSDN will impose a years ban to any EBSDN competition.

  • EBSDN will not get involved in this, we simply ask that you all do the right thing.

  • MUSIC

  • EBSDN is a family event.

  • First and foremost - All music, lyrics and dance attire MUST be age appropriate! ​

  • Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

  • Time limits are the maximum allowed and will be counted from the moment the music or dialogue begins.

  • If performers go over this, you will receive a 5 point deduction.

  • Due to Copyright and any State or Federal laws – all dancers and vocalists must have the permission of the choreographing teacher to perform routines and have permission to use all music. In accordance with federal statutes, performers must use original material or have permission from the relevant owners of copyright.

  • All competitors are responsible for gaining permission/ licenses required to use any music.

  • Music with vocals is prohibited in ALL Song and Dance sections, except when the performer is dancing!

  • Vocal sections may have backing music, but IT MUST NOT overpower the singer!!!
    PLEASE NOTE: NO MUSIC WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY.
    ALL MUSIC NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED THROUGH MUSIC UPLOADS BY THE DUE DATE. 
    LATE MUSIC SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED BUT A $10 LATE FEE PER ACT WILL NOW APPLY. 

  • REFUNDS - PLEASE READ

  • Please note, EBSDN (Everybody Sing and Dance Now) competitions are prepared months in advance. 

  • We pay out for all prizes, venue deposits, insurances, staff, staff travel and accommodation, flooring, adjudicators, their travel and accommodation etc etc. 

  • Your entries into our competitions, which you enter months or weeks before we run are what we use to pay for all the outgoings above.  

  • DUE TO COVID-19 - If at any point the GOVERNMENT changes the rulings of events or they close borders, or you live in a hot spot or we as organisers live in a hot spot, or the venue move our dates. 

  • EBSDN will move do one of two things.

  • A: The competition will become an online competition whereby each performer or troupe will upload a video to Music Uploads. 

  • Each performance will be judged online with voice critiques and the same prizes we would have at a live competition, will be mailed to each performer or studio.

  •  B: With the venues help we will reschedule the competition to future date. 

  • We have successfully held online events and have rescheduled competitions. I do feel secure in the knowledge that it will be successful. 

  • If EBSDN moves online, we will ask you to upload your videos to Music Uploads and our adjudicators will still be able to give you voice critiques and you will be able to view the competition.

  • EBSDN (Everybody Sing and Dance Now), does reserve the right to change competition days or move the location due to unforeseen circumstances and entries will not be refunded, but we will give a credit to another of our competitions.

  • Performers are not entitled to any refund of fee or transfer of fees in case of nonappearance in any section or if you or your performer chooses, they do not want to perform anymore.

  • We DO NOT provide refunds for change of mind, change of mind regarding EBSDN rules, clash with another competition or commitment or the performer decides they do not want to partake in competitions, anymore. 

  • If you have made a mistake (e.g., double entries) or the performer is injured (with proof) we will transfer you with a transfer fee,  to another one of our competitions.

  • What if my performer contracts COVID 19 before an EBSDN competition?  Answer - We will transfer with a fee and a POSITIVE PCR Test from NSW Health or QLD Health. 

  • If someone in my family is a close contact – No fees are refundable.

  •  EBSDN does not accept Rapid Antigen Tests.
    If you have a  change of mind and decide NOT to attend EBSDN due to outbreaks of COVID or an Act Of God. EBSDN will NOT refund or transfer.

  • DISCLAIMER
    Photographs/recordings of participants by any of the EBSDN staff, contractors, or members of the press become the property of Everybody Sing and Dance Now and may be used for future publicity.
    The use of photos and videos for marketing purposes is granted to EBSDN upon receipt of a paid entry.
    This consent would remain in place for 3 years.
    EBSDN and its organisers are not responsible for any injuries incurred and your registration and participation mean implied consent. {Please read safety and injury}
    Third party photos are strictly prohibited, EBSDN reserves the right to control and mandate all venue images, the sale of any photos for profit from a EBSDN competition by any third party vendor, studio or patron is strictly prohibited.

     

  • SAFTEY AND INJURY

  • We have taken extra health and safety measures – for our performers, guests and EBSDN Staff.

  •  We ask that you follow all posted instructions while attending a competition.

  • However, an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 currently exists in any public place where people are present. 

  • COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. 

  • Senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

  • By visiting an EBSDN competition, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

  • Participating in sport or dance competitions can be rigorous and result in injury.

  • They can include, but not limited to, sprains, bruises, pulled muscles, and broken bones.

  • Participation in EBSDN indicates the acceptance of such risks by performers and troupes.

  • Therefore, by virtue of entering this event, it is agreed that participants will not hold EBSDN or its officers, directors, staff, volunteers responsible for any sustained injuries sustained or illness contracted by them while in attendance and /or participating in any activity related to EBSDN

  • EBSDN and the hosting venues are not responsible for personal injury to contestants, spectators or staff.

  • The safety of our competition dancers, spectators and staff  is paramount at all EBSDN events.

  • Due to EBSDN being a public event we encourage all attendees.

  • Please supervise children at all times.

  • It is advisable that if you have a child under 13yrs of age, an adult should please, go to the toilet with them.

  • Please be responsible for YOUR personal belongings.

  • Please be aware of surroundings and inform an EBSDN staff member of unsuitable or suspicious activity.

 

  • BULLYING

  • Bullying or intimidation at an EBSDN competition is not acceptable and any evidence of such, will result in instant dismissal from the competition. Sportsmanlike behaviour is always expected. Failure to display proper decorum could result in immediate disqualification. This includes attempting to recruit students from other studios to attend your studio. This is NOT acceptable!!

 

  • INDEMNITY

  • All attendees, including but not limited to, Dancers, Singers, Parents/Caregivers, Teachers, Directors, Volunteers and Patrons, indemnify and keep indemnified Everybody Sing and Dance Now ( EBSDN) and its committee members and operators on both a commercial and personal basis against all actions, suits, proceedings, claims, demands, costs, and expenses whatsoever which may be made against the registered EBSDN and or its volunteer members in carrying out the duties and requirements in terms of the event and these rules.
